Just a short 20-minute drive away from Galmpton Touring Park is the seaside resort town, Torquay. Located in the heart of the English Riviera on the South Devon coastline, Torquay is well-known for its popular beaches, abundance of local activities and stunning harbour. Our guests love visiting Torquay for a family day out as there is plenty to see and do, whatever the weather! Steeped in history, the quaint Victorian appearance of the town’s architecture provides a quintessentially British feel whilst the plentiful tourist attractions provide hours of entertainment for children and young ones.

Here are some of our favourite activities for a day out in Torquay:

Babbacombe Model Village

This world-famous attraction has been bringing joy for families across the region for over 50 years. Since the village opened in 1963, it has dedicated itself to the upkeep of the model village and has frequently updated the features on display. The exhibition stretches across 4.5 acres of land and depicts the subtle humour of British life through the decades. Featuring over 400 well-maintained models that capture architectural styles from Shakespeare to modern times. Kids will love the Where’s Wally game as well as the miniature displays and animations, there’s so much to see at Babbacombe! We recommend the Christmas wonderland illuminations with thousands of miniature sparkling lights twinkling across the garden. What’s more, Babbacombe allow a free return visit within 7 days, so why not see the village by day and night!

Torre Abbey Sands

Featuring not just one but 9 sandy beaches, you are spoilt for choice when visiting Torquay, but Torre Abbey Sands is our favourite. Located on the main seafront and just a short walking distance away from the main town centre, it is definitely worth taking a quick trip down to the seaside to enjoy the views. The expansive beach is perfect for making sandcastles or just lying back in the sun with a book. Plus, amazing facilities mean you have all your wants and needs catered for including an ice cream hut and cafe.

Bygones

Take a walk-through history from the beginning of Queen Victoria’s reign to the First and Second World Wars and onto the 50s and 60s. Bygones is fun for all the family and involves 3 levels of exciting displays full of surprise, suspense and nostalgia. Stroll down an authentic life-size Victorian street and take a moment to visit the blacksmith hammering horseshoes or pick up some treats at the old-fashioned sweet shop. Even featuring a 27-tonne steam engine, there’s certainly something to entertain everyone at Bygones.
